Day 99: Set Up Voice Pace Alerts on Your Garmin
Constantly looking at your watch to check your pace breaks your rhythm and your focus. Garmin's audio prompts can read your pace out loud through your headphones instead — and even warn you when you drift outside your target pace.
What you need
Audio prompts are spoken through a Bluetooth audio device. On music-capable Garmin watches you can pair headphones directly to the watch; otherwise the prompts play through your phone, with the Garmin Connect app running and headphones connected to the phone.
Turn on audio prompts in Garmin Connect
- Open the Garmin Connect app and go to your device settings.
- Find Sound & Alerts or Audio Prompts (wording varies by model).
- Choose the activity, for example Run, and enable the prompts you want — lap, pace, heart rate, and more.
- Sync your watch.
Add a recurring pace alert
To be told when you're off-pace, set a pace alert for the activity. In the activity's alert settings, add a pace alert, set it to recurring, choose current pace, and set your target range and how often it should trigger. During the run you'll hear a spoken cue whenever you go too fast or too slow.
Test it before race day
Start a short run and confirm the voice cues come through clearly at the volume you'll actually use, and that they don't clash with your music. Adjust the target range or frequency until the reminders help rather than nag.
Availability and menu names vary by model. See Garmin Support and your device's owner manual for the exact steps.
