Day 10: Stride II

"This Garmin watchface might save your life."

Ten days in, and we're revisiting where this all started. Stride II is the evolved version of the watchface I built after my doctor's warning — and it's better in every way.

What's new in Stride II

Stride II keeps the core concept of the original (hourly 250-step goals) but adds:

  • Smoother arc animation as you progress through each hour
  • More data fields (calories, floors, body battery)
  • Improved readability across different Garmin screen types
  • Better colour customisation options

The science behind hourly goals

Sitting for long periods raises your risk of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and all-cause mortality — even if you exercise regularly. The fix isn't to sit less in total, but to break up sitting with short bouts of movement.

250 steps takes about 2 minutes. That's it. But those 2 minutes, repeated hourly, change your metabolic profile over time.

How Stride II helps

The watchface gives you a visual, at-a-glance reminder every hour. No notification needed. No buzzing. Just a ring that fills — and resets — hour by hour, nudging you to move just a little bit more.
