Day 71: Claude AI Can Build Your Training Schedule From Your Actual Garmin Data

Most training plans are built on averages. They don't know your HRV, your VO2 Max, your sleep patterns, or your training history. Claude AI can. In 3 steps, you can hand it your complete Garmin data export and get a personalised training schedule built around your actual body — not a generic template.

Here's exactly how to do it.

Step 1: Export your Garmin data

Go to garmin.com → Account → Data Management → Export Data.

  1. Log in to your Garmin account and click "Export Your Data"
  2. Garmin will prepare a ZIP file — this can take a few minutes to a couple of hours depending on how long you've been tracking. You'll get an email when it's ready.
  3. Download and unzip it. You'll find a folder called DI_CONNECT — that's the one Claude needs.

While you wait: define your goal. The more specific, the better:

  • Run a 10-mile race in 6 months
  • Lose weight and improve general fitness
  • Build up to cycling 100km
  • Improve sleep quality and reduce resting heart rate

Step 2: Open Claude with file access

You need a version of Claude that can read files directly from your computer — not the standard chat at claude.ai. You have two options:

Option A: Claude desktop app (easier — no terminal needed)

Download the Claude desktop app for Mac or Windows. Open it, grant it access to your unzipped Garmin folder, and paste the prompt from Step 3. Requires a paid Claude plan (Pro at $20/month).

Option B: Claude Code (more powerful — requires a terminal)

Claude Code reads files directly from your computer. Open your terminal (Mac: Cmd+Space → Terminal; Windows: PowerShell as administrator), install Claude Code with:

Then type cd , drag your unzipped Garmin folder into the terminal, press Enter, and run claude to start.
