Day 101: Goals Pro: The Upgrade to the Most Popular Garmin Watchface
Goals is the most popular watchface on Garmin — out of thousands in the Connect IQ Store. I made it. That is still a wild sentence to write, but this is not really a story about one developer's most-installed app. It is about why a watchface earns a place on so many wrists in the first place, and what I learned building its upgrade: Goals Pro.
Why Goals works
The idea started with the thing many people miss after moving from an Apple Watch: closing rings. Goals brings that immediate visual motivation to Garmin, without locking you into somebody else's definition of progress. Steps, calories, intensity minutes — whatever you pick, watching a ring close is more motivating than reading a number off a list.
Goals Pro: same design, full control
Goals Pro keeps the ring layout that made the original so popular, then hands you the controls that used to be fixed:
- You choose what counts. Use steps, intensity minutes, calories, floors, Body Battery, or the Garmin metric that matters most to you — not a fixed set of three.
- Long-press a ring or data field to jump straight into that metric's native Garmin app.
- Choose from more fonts — including analog hands, if you prefer them to a digital clock.
- Set multiple data-field sizes so the stats you care about most stand out.
- Match the background to your rings with a gradient that follows your chosen colours.
Built with the community
None of that customisation came from guessing right on day one. The long-press shortcuts, analog hands, extra font sizes, and background gradients all came from ideas people shared on the idea board after using Goals. That feedback is what turned a simple ring watchface into Goals Pro.
