Garmin Enduro 4: Same Hardware as the Enduro 3, fēnix 9 Software

Garmin just launched the Enduro 4, and it did exactly what it did with the fēnix 9. The hardware is almost identical to the Enduro 3, the news is all software, and the Enduro 3 is now $100 cheaper.
Garmin launched the Enduro 4, and it's the fēnix 9 story again
Garmin just released the Enduro 4, its ultra-endurance watch, at $899.99. And it did exactly the same thing as with the fēnix 9 a few weeks ago: a new name, nearly the same hardware, and a batch of new software.
The hardware is almost identical
Put the Enduro 4 next to the Enduro 3 and the inside barely moved:
| Spec | Enduro 3 | Enduro 4 |
|---|---|---|
| Price | $799.99 | $899.99 |
| Display | 1.4" MIP, 280 × 280 | 1.4" MIP, 280 × 280 |
| Case and lens | 51 mm, titanium bezel, Power Sapphire | 51 mm, titanium bezel, Power Sapphire |
| Battery, smartwatch | 36 days (90 with solar) | 36 days (90 with solar) |
| Battery, GPS | 120 hours (320 with solar) | 120 hours (320 with solar) |
| Sensors | Elevate heart rate, Pulse Ox, skin temperature, multi-band GPS | The same |
| Storage | 32 GB | 64 GB |
| Working memory | — | About 50% more |
| Weight | 63 g | 66 g (case still 57 g, the new band adds the rest) |
So yes: double the storage, more working memory, and a new ComfortFit fabric band. The display, the battery and the sensors are exactly the same. No new health sensor here either.
What is new is the software, the same as the fēnix 9
The new features are the ones the fēnix 9 introduced:
- Stamina zones and the stamina curve, so you can see how your endurance holds up over time
- Faster maps. Garmin says panning is about 30% quicker, and the extra memory is what makes that possible
- Rucking with pack weight, which now counts in running, hiking and walking
- Indoor rowing VO2 Max, power curve and more, with compatible equipment
- ArcheryX and Garmin Epic, which bundles a multi-day trip into one shareable recap
The Enduro 4 also gets a race planner with aid stations, cut-off times and planned rest, which matters on an ultra. Good additions, all of them, but software is exactly the kind of thing that tends to reach older watches through updates later.
So should you buy the Enduro 3 instead?
Maybe now is the right time to get the Enduro 3. It's $100 cheaper than the Enduro 4 right now, with the same display, battery life and sensors. You'd give up the extra storage and memory, and whatever new software doesn't make it to the Enduro 3 in an update.
Not in a hurry? Wait for Black Friday. Outgoing models are usually where the biggest discounts land, and the Enduro 3 is now an outgoing model.
I've already added the Enduro 4 to the Garmin Finder, so you can put it next to the Enduro 3, or any other Garmin, and compare the features that matter to you.
